— Lin-Manuel Miranda, Playwright & Composer —

“Every artist’s origin story begins with being seen—truly seen—for the first time.”

“Imagine when I use Google Translate, I translate from Arabic to English because for 50 years under the Syrian regime, we Kurds were not allowed to speak or learn Kurdish in schools. This is what the regime sought—stripping us of our identity, language, and all our rights…

Kurdish Single Mother

I apologize for sharing our pain, but this is our reality and past.

Kurdish Single Mother

Origin Story

Silence...

These words pierced through my heart. I felt helpless, unsure how to support the Kurdish single mother. No words could suffice to fill the silence. All I could do was validate her emotions and offer my genuine willingness to listen. After she recounted her long suppressed perspectives, tears began rolling down my cheeks. Although we were thousands of miles apart, the empathetic act of human connection transcended other barriers.

When I began tutoring conflict-affected communities, my understanding of international conflicts was limited to mainstream media. However, I realized I failed to understand the heart of the story: the first-hand experiences of the victims impacted the most. I had merely skimmed the surface of news headlines but failed to consider the vitality of human experiences.

I recognized my privilege. Living in the United States, I am free to express my cultural identity through Kuchipudi dance, the Telugu language, and Hindu traditions. I could not imagine being forced to sacrifice these cultural roots, indispensable to my identity. While I could not relate to the student’s harrowing experiences, I could offer a transparent environment where she felt valued without fear of judgment.

This desire led me to found the ARTiculate Narratives Project, which allows marginalized individuals to share their hidden perspectives through universal creative mediums. Recruiting enlightening submissions from Kenyan art students and Indian children with neurodisabilities, this initiative has highlighted sensitive themes from gender-based violence to neurodisability stigma.

I am truly grateful for the invaluable contributions that transformed this vision into a blossoming reality. Mrs. Rachael's unwavering mentorship provided essential guidance, while Mr. Philip's relentless efforts in recruiting, organizing, and disseminating the Kenyan ARTiculate Narratives were truly remarkable. Brother Augustine's unparalleled dedication to engaging children with neurodisabilities in this project stands as an inspiring testament to his compassion. This endeavor would not have been possible without their generous time and unwavering commitment.

It all began with a single conversation, blossoming into a purpose greater than my own—an unwavering commitment to advancing marginalized voices to catalyze healing, empowerment, and reform.

A note for all creative individuals:

In my many years of following my soul purpose, I have understood that, as Paolo Coehlo expresses in his book, “The Alchemist,” when you truly want something, the Universe conspires to make it happen.  Such powerful words.

Amrutha and I have kept in touch as she was just beginning her university adventure.  One day, completely out of the blue, she mentioned how moved she was with a situation she had experienced.  Like so many, she could have thought about it and then released it as one of many experiences that could influence her much later in life.  But she did not.  Our Universe brought all these disparate energies together, and this website is the result. Only time will tell how this project is embraced. I can, however, wholeheartedly write that I have been moved by every ARTiculate story I have read. I have felt the pain and joy of our new family. It reminds me of how vital it is for us to share our skills, talents, and voices with others.  This is an opportunity for you to shine, to be seen and heard. To say, “I am here.”

And I, along with others will say, “I See You…Sawubona”.

Remember dear ones, you are all beings of light and love.

I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude and deep appreciation to all the fine artists who participated in this great program: the ARTiculate Narratives Project. Your creativity, passion, and dedication brought light, life, color, and meaning to every aspect of our shared artistic journey.

Each artwork is uniquely creative and powerful, making the program not just a success, but a memorable celebration of artistic expression. Your works inspired, challenged, and uplifted me to continue mentoring artists despite tough challenges.

You are not only skilled in your artwork but in literal writing as well. The stories you have shared are truly heart-touching for audiences—and for that, we are truly grateful.

Coordinating this initiative has been challenging yet, for me, a very rewarding experience, made even more fulfilling by the opportunity to work alongside such talented individuals as we express our inner selves and thoughts, including speaking for other artists.

I truly thank you for participating in this program. I look forward to continuing to work with you and seeing your art grow as we impact the world.

The ARTiculate Narratives is a unique initiative that goes beyond sharing artworks and images—it shares lives, truths, and silent hopes. Art has the sacred power to speak the unspoken, heal the unseen, and open windows into the dignity of every human soul.

Children with special needs have their own unique worldview and perception, yet they seldom have the means to express it to the larger world. Art becomes the bridge—a sacred medium that

allows them to communicate, connect, and be understood.

I am grateful to contribute to this journey of awareness and affirmation, especially on behalf of the special children and persons with disabilities of Arulchandru Special School, whom I serve with love and conviction.
